Overcoming Fear, Stepping Out on Faith: What I Learned This Past Year Since I Started Blogging
Last year on this day, February 20, 2017 I purchased my domain in preparation to begin blogging. A friend of mine had previously encouraged me to blog years ago, but I wasn’t sure how to begin or what I would possibly blog about. I knew that I loved writing and had even wanted to own a magazine at one point similar to Essence and Ebony. It wasn’t until I finally decided that I would write my first novel that I figured out what I should blog about. Being a Domestic Violence Survivor, I made a promise to God that once He delivered me that I would share with everyone that I could. What better way to inspire, educate, and empower those in abusive relationships to be free than to begin with blogging about my own struggles and testimony? Before starting my own blog, I was able to do a guest post entitled “Step Out” on my coach’s page. I was really talking to myself while encouraging others to “step out of fear, and step out in faith.” I got such positive feedback that made me feel better about posting my own. My coach gave me some guidance on domain registration and gave me tips on creating content in advance. I watched a webinar, YouTube videos and talked with another blogger friend who had been blogging for years, then was ready to go. That’s when the Overcoming and Becoming One with God blog series was birthed.
Now here we are one year later, and I absolutely love blogging. I’ve gotten the opportunity to connect with so many wonderful people on and off line including guest posts, podcasts, anthologies, and giveaways. This journey has been amazing and we are just getting started. Who knew that one post would turn into more than twelve? God knew. When He told me to write “Step Out” it was His way of calling me out too. Often before I get a message to give to others, I first have to go through it and overcome it myself. I was fearful of writing for a number of reasons, one of which is because I had gotten comfortable being in the background. Blogging and the opportunities that came from it pushed me way out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to honor my promise. I am so glad that God could trust me with my gift of writing and to share my testimony with those who need it most. Let’s pause here: who needs to hear what you have to say? Who needs to see that they can too overcome, with God, just as you did? This is your confirmation to either start or continue to step out of fear, and step out in faith. God will keep you through the process.
